Creative Ways to Use Common Promotional Products - Part 1

Promotional merchandise is a great way to get your name out there and is low cost, useful, and effective. Printing your company details on these products gives your potential customers an easy way to get in touch with you, and this is the most common way of using popular promotional items.

Sometimes, however, you want to get more out of your trusty branded mugs or USBs. Marketing is all about thinking outside the box and finding new ways to impact customers, and branded merchandise isn’t any different. This week, we're looking at two of the most popular products and creative and fun ways to use them in your marketing strategy, with another two products next week!

Use Mugs to Create Opportunities to Relax

What do you associate with mugs? Is it early morning coffees, office tea breaks, or soothing chamomile before bed? Hot drinks come hand in hand with relaxing and taking a breather, and mugs are reached for often during the day, making them a fantastic promotional product for brand exposure! When coming up with ways to use mugs in your marketing campaigns, focus on comfort and stress-relief to connect with your target audience.

Everyone has a particular way they like their tea and coffee. Whether they want heaps of sugar, the tiniest drop of milk, or only decaff, remembering people’s preferences can be a struggle. With personalised tea recipe mugs, no brew will ever be wrong again, so this is a fun gift to give to your employees to say thank you for all their hard work.

Mugs cakes are a simple way of enjoying a sweet treat when you don’t want to bake or go to the shops, and they need just a few ingredients and a microwave. Print a recipe on a mug and give away to employees and customers for a unique way to have them reach for your brand. There are loads of recipes online to take inspiration from, like chocolate cake or blueberry muffins, so choose your favourite and share the joy.

Frequent small breaks at work boost productivity and reduce burnout, and enjoying a tea break is a part of most people’s routines. It’s also important to get up and walk around frequently, to stretch, to get away from screens or machinery, and to stay hydrated. Sometimes these little things get forgotten within the daily hustle and bustle, so printing break suggestions on mugs will give your employees and customers the reminder they need to look after themselves, and will show you care about them.

Don’t waste the space inside the mug! Create relaxations packs with tea bags, biscuits, sweets, and candles which can fit inside, and can all be branded as well.

Focusing on calming and homely ideas will create an association between your brand and relaxing moments, meaning your customers will develop a more positive brand perception.

Provide Useful Resources on Flash Drives

With USB flash drives, it’s not just about what’s printed on them but what’s uploaded on them. Choosing useful products is a great way to increase your campaign’s longevity as people keep hold of beneficial items longer, and flash drives provide so many opportunities to give your audience something worth keeping.

Videos are an engaging way to get your message out to your audience. Make a video with handy tutorials or advice that your audience will be thankful for, such as tips for using your service, or create a video about your company story to introduce yourself to new clients.

Infographics, instructions and training booklets are good to hand out to new employees so they always have information on hand and can use the memory stick for their own purposes in the workplace or at home.

Print-outs such as planners, calendars, and lists are a helpful resource for both employees and customers, and can have a different purpose for every business. For example, if you’re a personal trainer or work for a gym, create a printable planner for weekly workouts or a calendar for fitness goals. If your business is focused on children or families, printable colour-in sheets will connect you with your customers.

Of course, creating files and uploading them to every USB flash drive you want to give away can be time consuming, but if you have potential customers you want to make a bigger impact on then the effort is absolutely worth it!
